„Close the Loop“ with Constellium

Bar ohne Namen

New Aluminium Recycling Project in the Automotive Industry

Constellium, a leading provider of aluminium solutions for the automotive market, is leading the "Close the Loop" project to recycle aluminium from end-of-life vehicles and reuse it in future vehicles. In close collaboration with recycling companies in France, including INDRA, GALLOO, and MTB RECYCLING, Constellium continues its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the automotive industry. Additionally, through this project, Constellium is advancing the transition towards a low-carbon economy.

Technological innovations for transformation

New technological innovations are a key factor in the project: Constellium is working on the development of advanced technologies for the dismantling, sorting and recycling of aluminium. Within this framework, several aspects, including the complete shredding of the vehicle and the dismantling of components containing aluminium, are being evaluated both technically and economically. In addition, new aluminium alloys for body panels with increased tolerance to impurities are being developed as prototypes at Constellium's C-TEC research and development centre, which is also investigating new technologies for decarbonising smelting processes.

Through partnerships with recycling companies and the French environmental agency ADEME, Constellium is adopting a holistic approach to aluminium recycling. This collaboration facilitates an effective exchange of knowledge and resources across the entire value chain. As a result, the project not only contributes to reducing the carbon footprint but also strengthens the position of aluminium in the automotive industry and promotes the circular economy.
