Carsten Gerhardt studied Physics, Mathematics and Anglo-Irish Literature at the University of Wuppertal and at Bethel College/Kansas, USA. He obtained his PhD in theoretical solid state Physics from the University of Wuppertal/Universite Laval Quebec/Canada and received a Bachelor’s degree in economics. He started his professional career as a business consultant with the Boston Consulting Group in 1998.
At Kearney Carsten is a member of the Chemical industry Team and leads the Agriculture activities. His functional competencies focus on digitalization, sustainability and circular economy.
Besides his work as a strategy consultant, Carsten is chairman of Wuppertalbewegung e.V., a citizens’ initiative in Wuppertal, Germany, that has turned abonded railroad tracks of 20+ km running straight through the town into cycling and inline-skating paths. This is Carsten’s very hands-on contribution to Sustainability.
Carsten supports companies in achieving lasting competitive advantage balanced with social and environmental responsibility. In addition he is responsible for Kearney’s activities in the context of the German Sustainability Award. In 2020, together with a group of like-minded people Carsten has initiated Circular Valley™ as the prospective global hot-spot for Circular Economy actitivies in the larger German Rhine-Ruhr area.
