EGA strengthens European presence with acquisition of Leichtmetall

Bar ohne Namen

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) recently took a significant step forward by acquiring Leichtmetall Aluminium Giesserei Hannover GmbH, a leading German aluminium recycling company. This acquisition further solidifies EGA's position as one of the largest producers of premium aluminium worldwide.

The acquisition marks a milestone for EGA, being its first major acquisition since the merger of Dubai Aluminium and Emirates Aluminium a decade ago. This strategic move underscores EGA's commitment to sustainable circular economy practices and its ambition to expand its business operations globally.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, explains, “This acquisition provides EGA a platform to develop a recycling business close to our customers in Europe, contributing to the emerging circular economy and building on our existing position as one of the biggest importers of primary aluminium on that continent. Leichtmetall will grow as part of EGA. The acquisition of Leichtmetall adds significant value to EGA and, alongside the recycling facility we are building in Abu Dhabi, is just the first step for EGA in capturing growth opportunities worldwide in low carbon primary and recycled aluminium, expanding our business and enabling us to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.”

Recycling and sustainability in focus

EGA has publicly committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This acquisition and investments in recycling facilities are another step in this direction, highlighting EGA's dedication to environmental protection and sustainability.

Leichtmetall is renowned for its high-quality products and its use of renewable energy in production. With a focus on recycled aluminium, the acquisition contributes to promoting the circular economy in Europe and reducing emissions. The planned aluminium recycling plant in the United Arab Emirates will further bolster these efforts.

Market analysts predict a rising demand for recycled aluminium in the coming years. With the combination of Leichtmetall and the new recycling facility in Abu Dhabi, EGA is well-positioned to meet this demand while offering its customers high-quality, sustainable aluminium products.
