Focus on innovative recycling solutions and partnerships: Novelis at ALUMINIUM 2024
Bar ohne Namen
On the occasion of ALUMINIUM 2024 in Düsseldorf, Novelis will showcase its latest developments in the production of high-recycled-content aluminium alloys as well as its initiatives to establish a closed material loop, demonstrating how the company accelerates the sustainability goals of various industries.
Novelis is a global leader in the development of high-strength and formable aluminium alloys for the automotive sector, used in vehicle structures and components such as hoods, doors, and fenders. With closed-loop recycling systems and initiatives to establish an end-of-life ecosystem in order to achieve a complete cycle with the recycling of end-of-life vehicles, the company is setting standards in the sustainable design of the automotive industry. Sustainable aluminium solutions not only help to reduce vehicle weight and thus increase efficiency, but also improve the ecological footprint. At the trade fair, Novelis will present, among other things, the side panel prototype of a Mercedes body, which is made of 85% recycled aluminium. This body part, developed in a collaborative pilot project with a customer and supplier, is made from highly recycled aluminium, meeting the same high-quality requirements as the currently used alloy, while reducing CO₂ emissions by 60%.

Novelis' Specialties segment develops customized aluminium solutions for specialized applications – from architectural and construction materials to food packaging and industrial goods. With a strong focus on high recycled content, Novelis supports the reduction of CO₂ emissions and actively advances the sustainability goals of its customers. A standout example of this is the partnership with window manufacturer VELUX. As part of a multi-year agreement, the CO₂ emissions are set to be reduced to below 4.0 kg CO₂ per kilogram of aluminium supplied by the end of 2024. Both companies are also working on further reducing carbon emissions by 2030. At ALUMINIUM 2024, Novelis will showcase a VELUX window made from recycled aluminium alloys.
