Magnesium in focus at the trade show

Bar ohne Namen
Magnesium is the most important alloying element of aluminium – in Düsseldorf, therefore, a separate pavilion is dedicated to the topic.
Material properties, production processes, alloys or the various possible applications of magnesium: The Magnesium Pavilion at ALUMINIUM 2022 will be the exclusive touchpoint for all topics relating to magnesium.
The industrial partner of ALUMINIUM is EFM, the European Magnesium Research Association. Founded in 1991 in Aalen, Beden-Württemberg, EFM's members include magnesium foundries, suppliers of extruded material, machine and parts suppliers, furnace manufacturers, surface finishing companies and system suppliers. The location was not chosen at random: Among other research institutions, EFM cooperates with Aalen University to jointly promote science and research in the field of lightweight materials.
Joint booth and magnesium seminar
The joint booth gathers several EFM members as exhibitors:
- non ferrum GmbH
- Dynacast Deutschland GmbH
- Benseler Beschichtungen
- Stolfig Leichtmetall GmbH
- Guest: Castwerk Technologies GmbH
On September 26, the Magnesium Seminar will be held in advance in Hall 1, Room 14. In the three lecture blocks "General Trends", "Applications" and "R&D / Cooperation Opportunities", the current situation in the die casting sector in Europe, the current shortage of raw materials for magnesium as a lightweight material, current lightweight developments for aviation and rail transport, new manufacturing processes and alloys, lightweight construction activities and research projects in cooperation with various universities will be discussed.
"European and German politics have put themselves on the sidelines "
EFM Managing Director Christoph Schendera is a thoroughly contentious advocate of "his" material. Magnesium, says Schendera, "is in my view a criminally underestimated material. Not only is it the most important alloying element for the aluminium industry for improving strength, toughness and corrosion resistance - magnesium is also an important material for ideal lightweight construction in combination with aluminium, high-strength steels or fiber-reinforced plastics."
And he is not sparing with criticism of politics: "European and especially German politics have put themselves on the sidelines with their energy policy. Electricity prices in Germany have more than doubled in the last 20 years due to taxes, CO2 levies and grid charges."
